Keren Stearns

Research Associate I

Keren joined Measures for Justice in December 2021 after receiving her Master of Science in Criminology from the University of Pennsylvania, where she also received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology with a minor in Psychology. As an undergrad, Keren worked as a research assistant at Penn, focusing on correlations related to violence. Keren has also interned at the American Bar Association, where she contributed to future international development and legal programs in Europe and Eurasia. Just prior to joining MFJ, Keren interned at DC Justice Lab, where she conducted research on automated traffic enforcement, police discipline, and Bureau of Prisons incidents.

As a Research Associate, Keren leverages her educational background and professional interests in criminology and forensic psychology. Her inaugural data management responsibilities include the cleaning and coding of new data from Cook County, Illinois. These data were provided through partnership with Loyola University, and will be used to build a dashboard that brings all their data into one place. Also a member of the team striving to create national-scale policing measures, Keren assists in helping to improve data transparency as she hones her research skills and grows professionally.

Keren, a Baltimore native, enjoys exploring and going on walks and bike rides during her free time. Also an avid baker — or as she jokes, a “procrasti-baker” — Keren hopes to have the opportunity to travel more and visit new places.
