Work-Life Balance at MFJ: How Flexibility Drives Our Mission and Success
By Austin Rich, Recruiter III
At Measures for Justice, employee well-being is at the heart of our culture. We understand that employees thrive when they achieve balance between their personal and professional lives, and that balance ultimately drives the long-term success of our organization. That’s why we prioritize flexibility and wellness as core values at MFJ.
We recognize that life doesn’t always fit neatly into a 9-to-5 schedule, and we trust our team to manage their time in a way that allows them to do their best work while also meeting personal commitments.
To support this balance, we offer flexible work options:
- For those who live in Rochester, we offer onsite, hybrid, or fully remote options with approval.
- For those outside of Rochester, we occasionally offer fully remote roles, depending on the specific needs of the position.
- For those who need flexible hours for things like school pickups or doctor’s appointments, we simply ask that employees communicate, attend key meetings, and meet deadlines. Outside of that, they have the flexibility to adjust their schedules as needed.
MFJ’s flexible work arrangements allow me to contribute to our mission from my home in Philadelphia, without having to uproot my life to support a cause I believe in. The flexibility in working hours also gave me the opportunity to volunteer as a GED tutor for incarcerated men every Wednesday morning for a semester—another cause I’m deeply passionate about.
In addition to flexibility, we recognize the importance of taking time to recharge and care for ourselves. That’s why we offer a 6-week paid sabbatical to employees who have worked at least 5 years with MFJ. This time allows our team to step away from work, focus on personal growth, rest, or pursue other interests. We believe that taking this time off contributes to overall wellness, enhances job satisfaction, and fosters a deeper connection to the work we do.
This commitment to flexibility and wellness is a core element of MFJ’s culture, helping create a healthier, more productive, and more engaged workforce. When employees feel supported—both professionally and personally—they’re empowered to drive meaningful change, not only in their own lives but in the lives of others as well.
