At Measures for Justice (MFJ) our mission is to use data to measure and understand county-level criminal justice system performance in America. We collect, clean, code, and analyze county-level data to provide consistent, comparable, reliable, and objective performance measures across the whole criminal justice system, from arrest to post-conviction, on a county-by-county basis.
Measures for Justice seeks a personable and driven individual to advance our work identifying and collecting criminal justice data in California. As a member of the Data Outreach team, you will be based in California working under the direction of MFJ’s regional Data Outreach Manager (DOM), Assistant Director of Data Outreach, and Director of Technology (DOT).
This role will support MFJ’s efforts to understand and extract data from the many, varied databases and case management systems utilized by criminal justice agencies. It will require frequent travel through California to attend meetings with criminal justice stakeholders in each of California’s 58 counties (e.g., Sheriffs, District Attorneys, Public Defenders, Court Clerks, Judges, etc.). You will conduct substantial research and coordination with state and county stakeholders to map California’s data infrastructure, identify where case-level criminal justice data are located, how they may be accessed, and work directly with agencies and vendors to facilitate data extraction. You will also work to build and foster working relationships with various CMS vendors. The IT Outreach Consultant will work with the DOM to identify potential infrastructure issues/improvements, assist in the development of a data outreach portal, and execute other tasks as assigned to address gaps in California disposition data.
We’re just getting started with our outreach to measure the performance of local criminal justice systems throughout California, our ninth state. The first step involves understanding the availability and accessibility of data. We want someone who is inquisitive and proactive to perform in-depth research while also being professional, engaging, and tactful as you liaise with justice stakeholders. The position will begin in mid-2017 under a full-time, eighteen month contract. We offer competitive pay, flexible time, and an inviting work environment.
If you’re interested, please send us your resume, a cover letter and two references. The email should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org and have the subject line: “No data, no change.” Please specify your current location and that you are applying for the Information Technology Outreach Consultant position. We will continue to receive applications until the position is filled.
