UX / UI Designer

Full Time - Rochester, NY

At Measures for Justice (MFJ), our mission is to use data to measure and understand county-level criminal justice system performance in America. We collect, clean, code, and analyze county-level data to provide consistent, comparable, reliable, and objective performance measures across the entire criminal justice system, from arrest to post-conviction, on a county-by-county basis. Measures for Justice is seeking to hire a user experience / user interface designer to assist us with ongoing work on our data portal. Reporting to our Director of Technology and working directly with our Lead User Researcher, this individual will collaborate with members of our technology team in updating and expanding our current web experience.


  • You will revise existing and create new wireframes, prototypes, and interface mock-ups in support of various design efforts that are focused on presenting data.
  • Work collaboratively with key internal partners to revise existing and develop new interaction designs based on organizational priorities and end user feedback.
  • Develop visual designs and data visualizations to clearly communicate complex data based on our existing website and other brand documents.
  • Quickly iterate and offer versions based on design feedback and learning from user testing or feature response.
  • Visual design of externally published documents and materials.


  • Solid knowledge of best practices in interaction and visual design.
  • Experience crafting responsive web interfaces with a deep understanding of HTML and CSS.
  • Experience designing data visualizations.
  • Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite especially Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Open to tackle feedback and partner with others to get to the optimal design/experience.
  • Work successfully within a team structure and independently.
  • Passionate about design and eager to continue to learn and develop new skills.
  • A portfolio displaying knowledge of UX/UI, wireframes, data visualizations and marketing/collateral samples.
  • An interest in or experience within the criminal justice space is preferred, but not required.
